Here's an example of Createx Auto-Air pearl white, as applied to a 1963 Corvette*. Since the Auto-Air goes on with a matt finish, I clear-coated it with Future floor wax. The pictures on public.fotki.com/FMW/auto-air/ do a marvelous job of showing how the clear coat cracked. (I had forgotten about that until I saw the pictures full size.) I'm not sure what caused it. I've used Future for clear coat on other paint jobs (including auto-air - see the GTO pictures) and not had this problem. Perhaps I didn't let the color coat dry enough. I should keep better records, especially of problems. Shooting pictures that show pearl paint is a little difficult (at least for me), but I think this one shows something of how nice this turned out. That's interesting! I've wondered about that line of paints. Do you have any daylight photos of it? I'll bet that would really make it pop.

The photos are in daylight (but not direct sunlight). It's kind of tough to get pearls to show up the same in pictures as they do to the eye. Pictures 6 & 7 of my Fotki Auto_Air album give an indication towards the rear fender & roof area. I'll see if pictures in full sunlight do a better job.

It does look pretty good as shown in the pix you have.
The cracking problem with the clear coat is interesting; you may be right ~ the color coat may not have fully gassed out. I've not experienced it with Future, but I've seen comments from others that have had the same problem, and often they've fixed it by recoating it ... I guess the Future will self-level even over the cracking.
Good luck with it.

Thanks for the tip. I forgot that Future does act like lacquer as far as reflow. Next time I'm clear-coating I may try that.
