Here is the beginning of the Roadrunner wheels project. I took a piece of clear thin plastic and pressed a small amount of clay into the back. Then I trimmed the plastic as best I could to be the outer diameter of the wheel. This helps me to not push clay through the open area of the wheel. Then the wheel is set on the usual 3/8 inch thick piece of clay that is a sort of pyramid shape.
