Well, the windshield mold was a flop!! It did not turn out a good glass. Also I waited until I got home from work and opened it up and the part was still sticky leaving finger prints on it. I also realize once again that I did not take the time to wash the BMF plastic polish residue from the glass before making the mold. Makes me wonder how I got so lucky making the Cosma Ray bubble tops. The Alumilite clear resin is only half gone, I don't see how it could be bad. I'm going to Hobby Town today to pick up a kit of the heavy rubbery resin for my plunger project, I will get another clear kit while I'm there.

Well....here I go again with another try for a good glass mold. I clayed it up a different way so that there is less clay touching only edge of the glass. hopefully this will be a easy way to remove the sticky clay. I also washed the glass with soap and water this time. Also in the pic is a continuation of the hood mold.

So far so good! The clay came out pretty easily. I sprayed the mold release in and I'm waiting for it to dry so that I can remove that residue from the surface of the glass and then pour the silicone in to finish the mold. The hood mold turned out good too.

The second windshield mold turned out really nice. I poured some resin in. We will see what we have in a couple of days. Also, I have made three good hoods for the three piece hood project.

Today I made a windshield. It is not as nice as I would like. It has a couple of small bubbles in it and some small bumps too. It could be lightly sanded and then polished again. Completely against my grain and better judgement I put the mold in the oven for an hour and put the resin bottles in hot water for awhile too. I was willing to do most anything to get something that is at the least fully cured! Hopefully the next one will be better.

Nice work! That's pretty cool, I don't think I've ever seen a clear resin windshield before!

Very nice!!! How long did you have to wait for the clear to set up?

Well....I'm not really timing it, I will say 24 hours.I'm pre heating the mold in the oven first which goes against my learnings from Jeff. I never had to do that with the bubble tops. It could be the weather, who knows! I pulled one out this morning, it had a spot of some cured clear in it so I tossed it! I got sloppy and should have checked the mold better before starting a fresh pour. I do have 2 perfect ones though!

Here is a great example of how ornery clear resin can be. This 67 windshield came out pretty nice with one exception, it never fully cured so it bends easily. It is not sticky either. I have touched it some and left no print as it usually would. I have not tried to force my finger in it either. I'm sure it will not be fun to work with and try to cut the flash away and install.
