Hi, my name is Diane Johnson. I too was born right here in Phoenix and have lived here all my life. I have been building model cars for about 10 years now. My husband got me involved when we were dating and I have not stopped building yet. I build anything Chevy that I can tub. I also grew up at Manzanita, where my father and his best friend owned 3 sprint cars back in the 60s and 70s, so I love sprint cars and sprint car racing. I'm a fan of NHRA, NASCAR and Indy racing too. I have a need for speed! One Chevy Lady

Lanny, my dad's name is Jerry Shea and his best friend's name is Lloyd Meek. At the time Lloyd owned Quality Drywall. The cars were painted by Corky Larson and they were always blue and yellow. Our driver's were Benton Burns, Frank McDaniels, Bob Hibbner, they were from Tucson and Buddy Taylor who was from New Mexico. And of course Lloyd drove for awhile too. This was back when Bobby and Al Unser would come out from New Mexico and tear it up! Boy were those some fun days, we spent every Saturday night there. Did you race too? Oh by the way, my husband and I have a truck like the one in your post.

Lloyd Meek - isn't he motocrosser Shaun Kalos' grandfather? I know Lloyd very well from the days when he used to take Shaun to all the big races.

yes I know the quality drywall cars. Lloyd would use one of his semi's with a flat bed to haul to the track. (Now that might make an interesting model project) Frank was one of my favorite drivers. I worked with Jerry Pritchert, and a little on the Gabe and Tilly ford, Frank drove a coulple of races in the ford. Until Billy Shuman took over. Jerry had Sil Modesti as the driver. until he crashed in turn three, and distroyed the car. Jerry sold the car and I went push trucking for a while. And what ever haddened to Corky Lrason he painted a lot of stuff back than.

Wow those are a couple names I know...My dad went to school with Bob Hibbner & I went to school with his son's Jeff and John. They both raced sprint cars in Tucson for awhile. Jeff was racing late models down there also at TRP last time I was down there. Dave

"Hibby" was fun to watch as he backed the twister 2 in the cornor. I would stand in 3 and he would enter it almost backward standing on the gas sidways and he was in to 4 and down the stright.

OMG!! Lanny I can't believe you have a picture of Frank, that's AWESOME!! Do you think I could get a copy of it? This is so great to know that you guys know some of the people I grew up with. Yes Hal that is the same Lloyd Meek, Shaun was on a motorcycle when he was still in diapers, Lloyd got him a Indian and he used to tear up the desert with that thing. Lanny, I sorry to say but, Corky took his own life years ago after being diagnosed with cancer.
Talk about a small world. Diane

[/img]Hi Diane how have you and Doug been doing? I haven't seen you guys since the last Copperstate Contest in 2005. Oh yeah, my name is Tim Burkhardt from the Albuquerque Model Car Club. I have many photos of your work and Doug's. The last one I remember shooting was your green & white '69 Camaro drag car. If I can figure out how to attach a pic to this message, I will. By the Hal, if you read this I haven't seen you in a long time either. How's the digger doing? Anyway, it would be great seeing you guys again. Unless Copperstate Con starts up again, I'll try to get out there to your contests you guys started about 4 years ago. My friend Rick Wright always traveled with me to those shows, but he passed away in Dec of 07. Some of our other members still go to your show each year. Big John Pattison, Tim Pentecost, and Jim Symonds have been attending. I'll catch you when I can sometime. In the future, happy modeling. You guys keep up the great work. Burk How do you post pics on here?
