Hi, Phoenix Modelers!
Well, I may win the long-distance award for this board! I live in a suburb of Kansas City, MO, in a town called Liberty, MO. I chanced across this forum the other day and liked what I saw and read so I thought I'd jump in and maybe make some new modlin' buddies. Now... I may not make "many" of the club meetings (as it is a rather long commute), but I'll be there in spirit!I'm 62 years old, have a wonderful wife, and all our children are long gone out of the house and have their own homes and families. Luckily, not a one of them has expressed any interest in returning except for friendly visits! The perk for my wife and me is that we get to enjoy our freedom and our hobbies! I'm a public school elementary art teacher with 34 years of experince in the field.I grew up in the 50's and 60's in the golden days of modeling and America's love for anything on four wheels. Here in KC, I went to all the annual custom car shows staged by Darryl Starbird and Ray Fahrner. My teenage world was bubbletops, metalflake paint, and wild customs. My car building heroes were Darryl Starbird, Big Daddy Roth, Gene Winfield, the Alexander Brothers (well... you get the picture). My favorites to build are 1. anything custom, 2. rods of all types, 3. Roth-style monsters, and 4. Classic SciFi (circa 1950's).I am a resin caster and also create custom sculptures like shifter heads out of clay. I've amassed about 350 kits in my stash and love every one of 'em!I was out of modeling for most of my adult life and returned to it about 8 years ago. I'm looking forward to being a part of this online community!
