You guys remember the contract dispute between Bo Duke (John Scheinder) and Luke Duke (Tom Wopat)? Well they held the show hostage for the fifth season. Warner Brother's quickly got "look a like" replacements, hence Coy and Vance.
What the public didn't know was that the car builders for the show and the people hired to find Chargers to crash were also on strike. Also Chargers were getting expensive to buy just to crash. So Warner Brothers hired Ben Jones (Cooter) to find cars, he did his best and with little money that was given to him by the production company. He came up with a slightly different model car for Coy and Vance to drive for the Hero cars. He figured kids wouldn't notice the "look a like" Dukes so why would they notice a different car right?
