New start.....NEW THREAD! This project is going to kill me off yet. This must be about mold number 7. I have lost count. Here we go again. It's got some really big dimples too. Hopefully this will reduce the inner core of the mold from shifting under pressure!




Here is a typical boring "If you seen one, You've seen a thousand of them photo" of the mold box full of silicone. Yes, Mike, It is finally getting done!

And the usual HO HUM photo of the mold emptied of it's clay, cleaned, mold release sprayed in and readied for the other half of the mold to be made. Now I wish I would have put those dimples in the hood opening. Hopefully I will remember that the next time! I hate it when I forget to remember!

Hopefully this will be the best mold yet. Then I can get down to resin tacks and get some orders filled. Then I can get back to the failed hatch body. Mike and I need to put some green in our jeans. LOL Since I am poor A$$ broke, I really need 100,000 of you out there to buy one of my kits so I can afford to buy ModelHaus. Hopefully, I can just buy their whole darn farm so I won't need to cart it all to Arizona. LOL I learned from Bill Coulter of Model car book writing fame that their operation is quite expansive. I sent him four of these LX kits and he was delighted with my work. That does make me happy. He needed them for his latest book about Mustangs.

I am short handed in the shop now. Shartin Looms is on sabbatical back to England for the summer. He is doing research on diarrhea. He said it will be a crappy job but somebody has to do it. LOL I kind of miss him, he is a real gas to listen to when he is here. People from England have a really weird sense of humor. I really should trademark his name. He could have his own line of clothing or be President of the United States. "SHARTIN LOOMS FOR PRESIDENT"! Sounds good to me. Nothing like a good cup of coffee in the morning to get things moving along, I say.

POSTED PUBLIC NOTICE: If you are from England or Rio Linda CA., Shartin Looms is a fictitious person I made up. It would be funny if someone from Rio Linda called Rush L. up and told him an independent named Shartin Looms was going to run for President. How about some fake SHARTIN LOOMS FOR PRESIDENT bumper stickers with some slogans for some comic relief like:

"I intend to Ignite our economy for our nations future" HMMMM..To bad I'm not running.

"One of my resin kits in every stash" Well....maybe too self centered. LOL A chicken in every pot has been done!

Here is something I started doing that is noteworthy. To make the inside of the opening I use to collapse the mold to aid in demolding the new part I Covered it in resin. I also put enough silicone in to hold the foam down so now I have a much cleaner looking mold.

Here is an experiment with cutting vents in the mold. Mike wanted me to do something similar. There was an article published by the Michigan guys showing how they make a body mold. I compromised and will try this. I made gouges in the female molds edge to align with the holes I made bigger in the male part. Then I made craters for the excess resin to pool in. Once the mold is put in the pressure pot and pressure applied I'm hoping that it will allow resin to be pushed back in the cavity to help create a really nice clean body. I only wonder how Don Holthaus does there molds.

On a lighter note if I don't come to acquire Model Haus then perhaps I can move into a 55+ mobile home park. I could call my resin Trailer House or Trailer Trash resin.







First, I gotta say that you Michigan guys are really pretty sharp cookies! I am really impressed with this idea. All but two broke free cleanly without any blemish to the body. I will be more careful and cut more shallowly next time though. The front passenger side and the rear drivers side are too thick and will need a cleanup by me or the buyer. If I just push on it to break it free from the lower edge of the body, it will break the body so I scored it with the back edge of my exacto knife to cut it. I am amazed at how thin the flash is everywhere. This is the best yet!







Aside from these three little boogers on the body that look like typical sprue attachment areas this is about as nice as anything I have ever made. It of course will have to pass by Mike's eyes. I will make one using a bit less resin. I mixed 50 ML and there was a lot of waste.

This body was made with only 30 ML of resin. I wanted to push the envelope a bit to see how the mold would perform with a smaller amount of resin. It actually did quite well. The pressure gauge reads 50 PSI. There are a couple of spots that can be repaired. After only four pulls thought, there are some tiny holes showing up in the door panels. I will keep the standard pour of resin at 40ML for this body.
